Pedals To Shins

Glen Onoko

The falls

the “shrine”.

Glen Onoko has always been a staple in the Jim Thorpe area in Pennsylvania. It is a home for locals and tourists alike. Since the multiple injuries and deaths that occurred due to improper gear and getting that awesome nature shot the game commission has decided to shut it down May 1st due to these incidents and the manpower and resources it cost to keep it open. There are two trails that I have used to get to the falls. The first one is pretty direct and you walk along the water on in some parts, man made rock steps and some rough trails but they are marked with Orange markings so if you follow those you will be in good hands to the top. Once you reach the top, the falls which is a site to beheld in small Jim Thorpe, Pa!  The waterfalls definitely are a blessing a really hot day and it creates a calming sound while sitting on the rocks. Next to the falls is an area that reminds me of a shrine with rocks stacked al around it honestly this was probably my favorite part every time I come up here.

The marker changes it color to from blue to red to indicate the trails changing these trails at the top lead to small declines and rocky terrain.

As you look around on the trail you will end up seeing manmade rock walls and steps again eventually it will lead back to the parking lot. Luckily I was able to film my journey up and back down before it is closed for good.

As I have always said when hiking or doing anything know your limitations and use the appropriate gear when doing a hike. It will keep you and others safe.

One topic I always talk about when hiking is footwear.  I can recommend my Merrell reflex mid 3 as perfect hiking boots. They are a little more than I would pay for a shoe but for hiking you need to take care of your feet. These boots have the best tread and have not let me down they are lightweight and allow you to move without any issues! That was my plug for the blog post and I hope you’ll check them out!  #getlost
