Hickory Run State Park part one

Located off route 903 above the town of Jim Thorpe, is where one can find Hickory run state park. The park offers about twelve trails on its 15,990 acre area. Today, we managed to do two of them.

Hawk Falls

Hawk Falls is a trail that can be a bit muddy and slippery especially on a rainy day, so be sure to where appropriate footwear likely any other time! The trail switches between a downhill and flat land and eventually Takes to to beautiful creek that almost appears untouched. Once you reach that you you’ll see other trails, but take the trail west along the river and you’ll end up seeing Hawk Falls! You can see people jumping off into the water on a hot day as well as swimming although it’s not permitted. In addition to seeing the Falls, you’ll be able to see the PA turnpike bridge high up over the river. This makes for an excellent picture! After spending sometime at the falls we made our way to our next trail, Orchard Trail.

Orchard Trail Head

Orchard trail is essentially a loop, however we did the climb back out towards the river entrance. The trail offers rocky, technical terrain at times and some great views to behold such as this “windowed” area on the trail. The trail gives an elevation gain around three hundred feet. The trail ends up taking you to a service road where you can continue taking the trail loop or head towards the highway towards the parking area. Overall not a bad trail the best part was how serene it was.

If you are in the mood for a quick hike and in the area definitely check these out among the others. The next part will feature the Boulder field trail which is a sight to behold. I’m really looking forward to sharing it with you!

One little update, I am going currently working towards new designs, however I am asking you, the readers, what kind of theme appeals to you? Leave a comment below and thank you!
