So i have been doing a lot more hikes and a lot less writing about them the past few weeks. I was recently in Utah with my wife where we did a numerous amount of hikes. We stayed pretty close to Zion National Park where we did the usual Narrows and Angels Landing trails. Before we did all of that though we rented E-bikes from Zion Outfitters and rode them through the park to the end which was it at the Narrows Trailhead. While heading back and having our packs already on us we decided to head up angels landing. We locked up our bikes and proceeded to hike up the trail. the Trail is normally pretty crowded due to it being a main attraction in the park. The beginning of the trail is sand and rocky but becomes somewhat a paved trail with switchbacks. After a while your legs will start to feel it. after a little under a mile or so you’ll find yourself in a small canyon where owls live. We didn’t see any owls, but there was a sign that depicted that it was a habitat for owls and was a “quiet zone”. Shortly after passing through you are greeted by the Walter Wiggles, which are a series of switchbacks to get you to the top, these are fairly easy.
Once you make it to the top you’ll find numerous places to rest, keep in mind though the area is filled with wild chipmunk which can get aggressive!
The rest of angels landing is a series of narrow passes with chain link rails to take you to the top of the mountain. the view is pretty nice, ( i’m only saying nice because we did a better one overlooking this one the next day!)
A few thing to keep in mind while doing this trail is
BE PATIENT: take your time and if you need to wait for outgoing hikers then wait.
Find a Group: most hikers are trying to get to the top or leave so find a crowd that’s going the way you are going and take turns in an area.
Take take pictures for the ‘gram! don’t put your or anyone else’s life in danger for a nice photo!
keeping in mind these simple steps will keep you alive.
till next time
Mike
