Galen’s Revenge
After a few days of putting work in I wanted get back on the trails. Despite the rain fluctuating better a drizzle to a downpour. I left home and headed over to Jim Thorpe to access the trail. I made it past the new bridge in Jim Thorpe and continue to the next left which allows you to make it up the mountain and while following the directions on AllTrails I was able to access the trailhead which was in the baseball field. As soon as I put my Merrells on it began to rain, however I was prepared and brought rainproof coat.
While hiking the beginning of the trail it was well blazed and was easy to navigate. Then it became a little bit more difficult to follow due the leaves and multiple trails however I had my map and was able to make it through the wet and rugged trail. Fortunately the rain had stopped and I was able to remove the rain coat to cool off. The trail became noticeably more marked as I got closer to Nesquehoning. I ended up passing a graveyard on my right and a firehouse. Then I notice a friend on trail, a box turtle with its very cool orange and black markings. The turtle made a whining sound to me, I took a few pictures then made it to the end of the trail which connects to a half mile trail to Mt. Pigsah which allows you to see Jim Thorpe. I however turned back and figured I would do it another time.
On the way back I realized that the best way to do the trail is from the Nesquehoning start point because there were more marking and the trail was more apparent. So if you feel the need to venture on the trail be sure to start at the Nesquehoning trailhead on Catawissa st.
I could really find the history of why the trail is called what it is called but it was a great trail overall.
